Wear Orange Blood Drive
The EEYP team helped support the blood drive hosted by Moms Demand Action at the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. The blood drive was an absolute success as community leaders came out to support the initiative. Thank you to all who were able to donate blood!
Pen Pal Program
In an effort to help students improve their writing and give kids a fun and safe summer activity, we created the Pen Pal Program. Students were paired based on their interests and hobbies. They dropped off their letters and would pick them up at their designated libraries. So many Fort Bend County students participated!
Indus Art Camp
EEYP joined forces with the Indus Arts Council to create a summer art program “Truck Art and Me”. Students were introduced to truck art from Pakistan. Students learned the history and culture behind the art form and the Urdu language associated with it. The program concluded with a graduation ceremony showcasing the students' works of art including benches and truck art.
Juneteenth
EEYP sponsored the Missouri City Juneteenth Celebration-Family Night. We provided several family activities like a game truck, rock wall, and bounce house. The night ended with a family movie.
July
College Tour
Students were given the opportunity to visit 4 college campuses: Texas State Technical College, Texas Southern University, University of Houston, and Wharton County Junior College. Students started at Texas State Technical College where they learned about careers in the mechanical and welding industry. Then we went to Texas Southern University and met Mr. TSU! Students ate lunch at the University of Houston and toured the campus. The day ended with Wharton County Junior College where students learned about careers like processing technology.
Defensive Line Skills and Drills
Expose Excellence partnered with Total Performance Fitness gym in Stafford to sponsor a defensive line skills and drills session. Professional athletes who play for the Green Bay Packers led the workouts and gave our students some tips they can take back to their football teams in the fall.
Pushin’ P Pencil Drive
EEYP started a back to school drive to collect pens and pencils for students. Over 1000 pens and pencils were collected! Thank you to all who donated.
Youth Law Enforcement Academy
Students from Fort Bend County were selected to attend our 4-day youth law enforcement academy where they learned the ins and outs of law enforcement. Investigators and law enforcement personnel taught classes on topics that included domestic violence, SWAT, FBI, K9s, cyberbullying and more. Breakfast and lunch were provided by sponsors. The students had a great time!
August
Seeds of Gratitude Celebration
EEYP attended the 32nd annual celebration for the World Youth Foundation. There were special performances and moving speeches. Congresswoman, Sheila Jackson Lee, made an appearance, gave a wonderful speech, and recognized outstanding students. Scholarships were given to promising students.
Exchange Club of Fort Bend Presentation
The EEYP team attended the Exchange Club of Fort Bend meeting and met with professionals who shared some of the same goals as EEYP. Community leaders like John Healy and Tyra McCollum were in attendance. It was a great opportunity to share ideas and goals with a fantastic organization.
Fort Bend County Resource Fair
EEYP had a table at the Fort Bend County Resource Fair. The annual fair is held to promote the variety of services the county provides for the residents of Fort Bend County.
Pen Pal Mixer
The students of the pen pal program had the opportunity to finally meet their summer pen pal in-person. Some students even brought gifts! The students made new friends and some decided to continue writing to each other after the EEYP Pen Pal Program.
LCISD Back to School Block Party
EEYP had a table at the LCISD Block Party event. Parents and students attended the event and stopped at our table. Questions were answered and freebies were given. Several vendors attended and there was even a dunking booth!
Behind The Scenes
Houston Area TAPS Training
We attended the Teens and Police Service Academy training with other law enforcement agencies. Our goal is to to remove the stigma between youth and law enforcement by incorporating what we learned in training through our programs!
Fort Bend County Active Shooter Training
EEYP completed the Active Shooter Training at Gus George Law Enforcement Academy. We packed wounds, applied tourniquets, and practiced safety techniques on how to respond in case of an active shooter.
Violence Prevention Conference
Expose Excellence attended the Violence Prevention Conference put on by Harris County Public Health. We got some great takeaways about school safety and gun violence that have us prepared for in school programing this year!
