September
Houston Astros Field Trip
The Expose Excellence Youth Program took 20 students to the Houston Astros vs Los Angeles Angels game thanks to a donation from The Astros Foundation. For many students and chaperones, it was their first time attending an Astros game. The Astros lost 8-9, but our students were able to enjoy the game for free.
In-School Programs
EEYP hosted the leadership program in 3 schools this fall semester! We were at Willowridge High School, Randle High School, and Marshall High School. Students learned about conflict resolution, time management, and mental health. They also learned how to write a resume and how to create a portfolio. The program ended with a networking session where students met with professionals in their fields of interest.
Child Advocates of Fort Bend Breakfast
The ladies of Expose Excellence Youth Program attended the Child Advocates of Fort Bend Breakfast. It was a great opportunity to celebrate the great work that our partner organizations do in Fort Bend County.
Lamar High School Volunteer Fair
EEYP participated in the Lamar High School Volunteer Fair. We met with students and talked about various volunteer opportunities EEYP has to offer and upcoming events they could participate in.
Afterschool Matters Conference
Wendi attended the Afterschool Matters Conference hosted by Harris County CASE for Kids. She learned about enhancing student engagement, integrating innovative learning approaches, and optimizing program effectiveness to elevate the EEYP leadership program.
October
National Night Out
EEYP had a table at National Night Out hosted by the Rosenberg Police Department. We had a great time meeting residents, local businesses, and organizations that serve Fort Bend County.
DA Middleton’s 4th Annual Bike Ride for Survivors
Fort Bend County District Attorney Brian M. Middleton hosted the 4th annual Bike Ride for Survivors. Over 100 cyclists participated in the bike ride including DA Middleton. There were organizations that serve survivors of crime and activities for youth. EEYP was there with student volunteers who did chalk art and led the color run.
It was a fantastic event and a major success!
BF Terry High School Innovative School Day Presentations
EEYP had the opportunity to present “Teen Professionalism” to students at B.F. Terry High School. We discussed email etiquette, how to dress for the occasion, and the basics of resume creation.
SAT Tutoring
EEYP sponsored 2 SAT Bootcamps in the fall. Students received free SAT tutorials as well as lunch. We will be hosting 2 more sessions in the spring semester.
Anti-Trafficking Conference
The EEYP team attended the “That Is Not In My Town” Conference to learn more about the signs of child exploitation and what is happening locally to combat human trafficking.
Trunk O’ Treat
Expose Excellence and the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office participated in the Kids & Cops and Sheriff’s Office Trunk O’ Treat event. We had a Hawaiian Halloween theme and gave out TONS of candy!
Fall Festival
Expose Excellence staff from the DA’s Office and Juvenile Probation participated in the annual Fall Fest, passing out lots of candy to elementary students.
We had a spooky good time!
November
Randle Final Session
We closed the first semester of our after-school leadership program at Randle High School with 18 students receiving their certificates of completion. The guests included professionals ranging from pediatrics to music production.
WHS Final Session
This fall marked the SIXTH semester at Willowridge High School. We always enjoy coming back every semester to help new groups of students with the resumes and meet potential mentors.
DA Middleton’s Turkey Giveaway
The Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office, along with volunteers from Expose Excellence and community partners, gave away over 1,000 frozen turkeys!
Can you believe that we gave away majority of the turkeys within the first 45 minutes?
December
Marshall Final Session
EEYP also completed the first semester of the leadership program at Thurgood Marshall High School. Twelve students received certificates for completing their portfolios, and guests from various professions helped celebrate by speaking with the students about their career fields.
Patient Benefit Foundation
Raven and Wendi attended the Patient Benefit Foundation Gala, hosted by Expose Excellence Foundation board member Dr. Mubashir Chaudhry. PBF helps bridge the gap in healthcare by providing essential support and resources to those in need. Congratulations to Dr. Chaudhry and the PBF for the amazing work they do in the community.
