Aamea Evans: A Journey of Excellence Through the Expose Excellence Youth Program
Aamea Evans is a remarkable student whose journey exemplifies the positive impact of the Expose Excellence Youth Program. Aamea's experiences within EEYP highlight the program's success in cultivating confident, skilled, and community-minded young leaders.
Youth Law Enforcement Academy
Aamea's participation in the Youth Law Enforcement Academy provided her with valuable insights into various law enforcement positions, such as the SWAT team, FBI, Forensic Science/Crime Scene, and U.S. Marshals. She actively engaged in creating a portrait collage detailing traffic stops, animal crimes, and intoxicated driving, which she presented to parents and guests. She described her experience as "excellent!".
The Freedom Tour
The Freedom Tour, which took students to significant landmarks of the Civil Rights Movement, had a profound impact on Aamea. According to Aamea, "The Freedom Tour gave me a sense of awareness, empathy, and inspiration; knowing these historical landmarks of the civil rights movement provided a connection to continue to advocate for equality".
Academic and Professional Growth
EEYP has significantly impacted Aamea's confidence in achieving academic success. She has gained critical thinking skills, good communication, and academic excellence. Aamea explained that the SAT tutoring offered by EEYP helped her "use different test-taking strategies, remember not to overthink, and maintain confidence while testing". The Teen Resume Writing Workshop equipped her with the ability to properly showcase her education, skills, and accomplishments. Aamea states that this workshop gave her "the ability to properly build my resume showcasing my education, skills, and accomplishments to prepare me for my future career".
Aamea's internship at the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office further solidified her interest in the legal field. Working in the victim & witness department, she gained experience instrumental in developing her skills for a future career in criminal justice. She noted, "Working in the victim & witness department, I’ve gained the responsibility of being professional with confidential cases and communication. This has helped me develop skills for my future criminal justice career".
Future Aspirations
Aamea aspires to earn a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and explore additional law enforcement opportunities, with a goal to become a crime scene investigator. Her experiences with EEYP have prepared her to pursue these aspirations confidently.
Aamea’s dedication to her education and her involvement in EEYP have impressed the program's founder, Brian Middleton, earning a letter of recommendation from the Fort Bend County District Attorney. Aamea states, "I recommend the EEYP program to other students because it builds confidence and character, developing skills to motivate you to remain focused on your academics and gain knowledge in your future career".
